Psychologist in California Accused of Sexual Abuse of Her Minor Patient

A psychologist in California is accused of sexually abusing a patient while he was still a minor.

Sofia Ann-Buitron Drotts, 26, from San Francisco, was charged on Monday with several criminal offenses. Among them are unlawful sexual intercourse, sending harmful material to a minor, and possession of child pornography.

Drotts worked as a mental health psychologist at the John Davis Juvenile Detention Center, where the minor was assigned as her client.

According to prosecutors’ claims, the sexual relationship between the teenager and Drotts began in April and continued until July 14. That day, she was arrested by police after receiving information from a supervisor in the county’s Probation Department.

The charges came shortly after the teenager’s family sued the county, alleging that Drotts had been grooming him for nearly two years, since he was about 15 years old.

In the lawsuit filed by the family’s attorney, it is stated that while the teenager was incarcerated, Drotts “abused her position as his therapist to establish an inappropriate emotional connection.”
