Protest outside the Lipjan Court in support of Bekim Meta, awaiting the decision

A protest is being held outside the Lipjan Court in support of Kosovo Liberation Army war veteran and war invalid Bekim Meta. Participants in the gathering have called for the case being reviewed by the court to be handled fairly.

In this matter, Bekim Meta and Skënder Shahini are currently facing off before the Lipjan Court, while the court’s decision is still pending.

The case is related to an incident that occurred in the village of Magurë. According to the protesters, it all began after a family from the Roma community had finished hosting condolences for a female relative, after which a group of people allegedly went in an organized manner to the house of Skënder Shahini, Bekim Meta’s neighbor, and attacked him.

According to them, the clash took place at the entrance to Shahini’s house. At the moment of the conflict, Bekim Meta noticed what was happening and intervened to separate the sides, coming to the aid of his neighbor.

Sources related to the case say the cause of the conflict is suspected to be linked to a post-war incident. It is claimed that Skënder Shahini had found weapons and ammunition in the home of this Roma family and then reported them to the police. According to the same information, this action is believed to have caused dissatisfaction, while the attack by the Roma against Skënder is suspected to have been motivated by revenge.
