The Metropolitan Police said Brandram had been found unconscious at his home on the evening of Tuesday, September 15. The London Ambulance Service and police arrived at the address at around 7:12 p.m., but the 44-year-old was pronounced dead.

“His next of kin have been informed. At this stage, his death is being treated as unexpected, but there are no suspicious circumstances,” the Metropolitan Police said.

Earlier, Brandram’s identity had not been made public while authorities investigated the circumstances of his death. Following his death, police allowed his name to be released.

Brandram had been part of an investigation into one of London’s most widely discussed incidents in recent years, known as the “Putney Pusher.”

In May 2017, security cameras on Putney Bridge recorded a man running and pushing a woman onto the pavement just as a bus was approaching. The driver reacted in time and managed to avoid hitting the woman, who escaped a possible collision with the bus.

The footage went viral in Britain, and the unidentified perpetrator was given the nickname “Putney Pusher” by the media.

Despite years of investigation, the identity of the person seen in the camera footage had not been conclusively established. Brandram was investigated as a suspect in the case.

The initial investigation was closed in 2018 after no one was charged. However, new information led to Brandram’s arrest this summer. Only last week, detectives announced that he had been released on bail while the investigation continued.

Nicholas Brandram was the son of Paul Brandram, the only child of Princess Katerina of Greece and Denmark and Major Richard Campbell Andrew Brandram, who served in the British Army during the Second World War.

Princess Katerina, born on May 4, 1913, was a great-granddaughter of Queen Victoria and a first cousin of Prince Philip. She was the sixth child and third daughter of King Constantine I of Greece and Sophia of Prussia, as well as the sister of three Greek kings and a queen of Romania.

After the German occupation of Greece in 1941, Katerina left the country with her brother Paul and his wife, Frederica. She first went to Crete, then to Egypt and South Africa, where she worked as a nurse at a hospital in Cape Town.

After the Second World War, she returned to England and married Major Richard Brandram, a former rugby player, in 1947. The couple had met aboard HMS Askania while traveling back from Alexandria to England.

Nicholas Brandram also pursued a career in finance. He worked for the brokerage firm Killik & Co and the Israeli bank Bank Leumi before moving to HSBC, where he handled wealth management for wealthy individuals.

In addition to his career in the financial sector, Brandram had also served as a captain in the British Army, with missions in Iraq, Bosnia and Afghanistan.
