The news was announced by Bekim Kupina, the president’s media adviser.
According to him, the president will take the necessary actions within the deadline set by law.
“Today, the Kosovo Assembly forwarded the Law on the Specialist Chambers to the Presidency. President Shiroka-Pula will take the necessary actions within the legal deadline,” Kupina said.
Earlier in the day, Assembly Speaker Albulena Haxhiu had submitted the law to President Shiroka-Pula for promulgation.
The amendments approved by the Assembly on October 6 provide, among other things, for shortening the mandate of the Specialist Chambers, referring cases outside its jurisdiction to Kosovo’s justice institutions, and setting the maximum sentence at 15 years in prison.
The amendments to the Law on the Specialist Chambers and the Specialist Prosecutor’s Office were approved after four former leaders of the Kosovo Liberation Army were sentenced on September 16 to a total of 81 years in prison.
