Italy was rocked on Thursday by a massive explosion at an arms depot near Rome.

The factory where the incident occurred produces ammunition for land and naval defense, as well as solid fuels for space vehicles.
The fire started in a compactor, a machine used to compress gunpowder. High temperatures and strong winds then caused the flames to spread, leading to the explosion.
No deaths or injuries were reported. Firefighters and Carabinieri immediately cordoned off the area and managed to bring the blaze under control.
According to Italian authorities, the situation has stabilized, while the force of the explosion meant it was felt throughout the city. Investigations are continuing to determine the cause of the incident.
