Petro Koçi: I am critical of the Socialist Party, it has shown inability to fight corruption, Balluku? Rama took wrong steps

In an interview for News24, former Socialist Party MP Petro Koçi emphasized that he is critical of his party for many things, mentioning one of them while saying it has shown an inability to fight corruption in certain sectors.

The former MP also commented on the protest, saying that initially he had sympathy for it, but according to him, it is now acting like the Democratic Party.

“I am critical of my party for many things, such as the inability to fight corruption especially in some sectors, but there is one thing: we are now in the process of European integration. If you say let this person go because we will form a technical government, it is to postpone this process to a moment that may no longer have advantages for Albania.

There are some political developments in Europe that could turn this process backwards. So it is a process that needs to be accelerated because it is of strategic importance for the country. The fact that this protest movement cannot take shape with a party formation,” he stated.

Addressing the issue of Belinda Balluku, he stressed that Prime Minister Edi Rama has taken wrong steps and that her case should have been handled within the standard announced by the Socialist Party.

“The case should have been handled within a standard that was announced long ago in the SP. It would have been a moral advantage even for Balluku herself. For me, the steps Rama has taken have been wrong. It would have been best to follow the standard.

I personally am not in favor of suspension, because it is an unclear measure. Here the fault lies with the political standard. The moment a criminal case begins, either resignation or dismissal takes place,” Koçi added.
