PDK suspends Vlora Çitaku’s candidacy for deputy speaker of Parliament pending Constitutional Court ruling

The Democratic Party of Kosovo has decided to temporarily suspend Vlora Çitaku’s candidacy for the post of deputy speaker of the Kosovo Parliament until the Constitutional Court announces its ruling on the situation that arose during the constitution of Parliament.

In a letter addressed to the speaker of Parliament, Arian Tahiri, head of the PDK Parliamentary Group, said that this position was related to the ongoing and repeated violations of constitutional obligations concerning the constitution of Parliament.

PDK announced that it would turn to the Constitutional Court to request “a constitutional assessment and clarification of the situation that has arisen.”

In its press release, the party referred to Article 66 of the Constitution and the Constitutional Court’s judgment in case KO 124/25, stressing that the constitution process should have been completed within the deadline set by the Constitution.

According to Arian Tahiri, PDK representatives took part in the sessions on September 9 and 11, even though the constitutional deadline had already expired, with the aim of helping to complete the constitution process.

“However, this willingness was not utilized,” the letter said, with PDK claiming that further obstacles subsequently emerged and that procedural and political issues were used to delay the process.

Until the Constitutional Court issues a decision, PDK announced that it would not take part in the continuation of the process and would keep Vlora Çitaku’s candidacy suspended.

The party clarified that this measure did not constitute a renunciation of the post of deputy speaker of Parliament, which it considers belongs to it.

“The withdrawal of the current candidacy does not mean that the Democratic Party of Kosovo is renouncing the position of deputy speaker of Parliament that belongs to it, nor that it refuses to nominate its candidate for this position,” the document said.

Following the Constitutional Court’s decision, PDK announced that it would return to Parliament and act in accordance with its conclusions.
