PDK conditions vote for president on a political agreement

Sala Jashari, the newly elected MP from the Democratic Party of Kosovo, emphasized that her political entity will not support any candidate for head of state without a prior agreement.

According to her, support for the new president must necessarily be part of a broader pact. Jashari underlined that PDK does not simply aim for power for its own sake, but seeks to ensure dignified representation of the citizens who entrusted it in the elections.

“Our position is entirely democratic: without an agreement, PDK will not give its vote for the president. I hear voices in the public accusing us of seeking power, but we participated in the race precisely to govern and it is natural to want to serve the people, because that is what they voted for us to do,” she said.

The PDK MP assessed that her party has played a crucial role in building Kosovo’s institutions and that now is the time for deep reflection on the political processes in the country. She added that reflection is necessary due to numerous failures at various stages and on various issues, recalling that PDK laid the foundations of a functional state.

Regarding the governance of acting Prime Minister Albin Kurti, Jashari was critical. She stated that most of the promises made have remained on paper and that the current executive has failed to deliver anything substantial from what it pledged.

Continuing her criticism, the MP stressed that the government’s attention has been focused mainly on the north of the country, neglecting the rest of the territory and other citizens. However, she acknowledged that striking a balance between the legacy of the liberation war and the situation in the north is a significant achievement, but not enough to justify neglecting the majority.

“You cannot govern with a single focus and forget your own citizen, who today needs more than ever before,” Jashari concluded her statement.
