The heatwave that has gripped the country in recent days has led to a significant rise in the number of cases seeking medical care. Over the past 24 hours, more than 400 patients have been treated at the Polyvalent Emergency Department of the “Mother Teresa” University Hospital Center (QSUT).
According to emergency physician Albana Koçija, the most common complaints with which citizens present are mainly related to heart disease, as well as alcohol and food poisoning.

Doctors underline that high temperatures can worsen the condition of people suffering from chronic illnesses, and are therefore urging citizens to exercise increased caution during these hot days.
As temperatures are expected to remain high throughout July and August, specialists advise avoiding exposure to the sun during peak hours, maintaining continuous hydration, and consuming fresh foods.
The doctors’ appeal is directed in particular at the most at-risk groups, such as the elderly, children, pregnant women, and people with chronic illnesses, who should limit going out during the hottest hours and seek medical help if they show worrying symptoms.
