Osmani: Cooperation with Kurti on the president was a good choice, we succeeded

Former Kosovo President Vjosa Osmani has commented on her relationship with Prime Minister Albin Kurti, stressing that despite their recent cooperation, differences between them continue to exist.

Osmani said that she and Kurti worked together to find a suitable president for Kosovo and that the process ended successfully. However, she stressed that this had not changed their differing positions on other issues.

“We know very well that we are in opposition, while he is in government. But recently, we cooperated to elect a suitable president for this country, and we succeeded. This is an issue on which we managed to work well together. I strongly believe in Kosovo’s interests and its long-term interests, but this does not mean that we do not have differences on many other issues. Those differences continue to exist, and that is precisely why we have chosen to remain in opposition,” Osmani told Euronews.

According to the former president, the political and institutional uncertainty is causing Kosovo extremely serious consequences, which at this stage could be irreversible.

“At this moment, it remains truly uncertain whether we will have institutions or not, and this is unfortunate. This situation harms the people of Kosovo, as well as the country’s interests both within and outside it, internationally, because the damage is enormous. At this point, it appears that it may even be irreparable,” she said.

Analyzing the reasons behind Kosovo’s political deadlock, Osmani said the impasse had been caused by a combination of factors. As an example, she also mentioned the political model of former President Ibrahim Rugova.
