North Macedonia’s passport ranks 38th, citizens can travel to 130 destinations

North Macedonia’s travel document ranks 38th in the global Henley Passport Index. According to the ranking, citizens of North Macedonia can travel visa-free or obtain a visa on arrival in around 130 countries worldwide.

They enjoy the greatest freedom of movement in Europe, including access to all countries that are part of the Schengen Area. However, to enter the United States, Canada, Australia and several Asian countries, citizens must obtain the appropriate visa in advance.

Compared with other Western Balkan countries, Serbia holds a more favorable position, ranking 34th and offering access to 136 destinations.

North Macedonia shares 38th place with Montenegro, whose passport allows entry to between 128 and 130 countries. Bosnia and Herzegovina and Albania rank lower, at around 43rd place, while Kosovo ranks 61st.

Citizens of neighboring countries that are members of the European Union enjoy considerably broader mobility. Bulgaria’s passport enables unhindered travel to more than 175 countries and ranks among the 15 most powerful travel documents in the world.
