According to the Yonhap news agency, the Joint Chiefs of Staff of South Korea confirmed that it had detected the launches, but did not immediately provide information about the type of missiles.
This development comes at a time when tensions on the Korean Peninsula remain high. In August as well, Pyongyang carried out a series of missile launches toward the sea, despite signs of a possible resumption of dialogue with the United States.
US President Donald Trump has expressed a desire to hold a meeting this year with North Korean leader Kim Jong-un, with the aim of restarting contacts between the two countries.
Meanwhile, North Korea has continued testing missiles and strengthening its military capabilities. These actions have raised concern in South Korea, Japan and the United States, despite the diplomatic signals.
