North and South America Under the Impact of Devastating Storms, Tornadoes, and Floods

Simultaneously, two continents in the Western Hemisphere are facing severe weather conditions. In the United States, tornadoes and powerful thunderstorms have gripped several regions, while Chile is battling the tragic aftermath of torrential rainfall.

A broad front of severe weather has swept across the north and south of the American continent in parallel, bringing furious winds, tornadoes, downpours, and floods that have put emergency services on high alert.

Over 116 million citizens in the US are in areas threatened by violent storms, which are forecast to generate tornadoes, winds with destructive power, large hail, and flash floods. The states at highest risk include New York, Pennsylvania, New Jersey and the entire Mid-Atlantic belt, as well as the northeastern and eastern parts of the country.

According to official reports, wind speeds could exceed 110 km/h, while the large amount of rain alarmingly increases the probability of flooding. The National Weather Service also reported the formation of an EF-1 tornado in New York state, with winds reaching 153 km/h. As a result, extensive damage was recorded to vegetation, the power grid, and various building structures.

On the other side of the hemisphere, Chile is experiencing one of the worst natural tragedies in its recent history. The unrelenting rainfall, fueled by the El Niño climate phenomenon, has claimed the lives of at least 10 people. Approximately 100,000 people have been stranded by the water, thousands more have been forcibly displaced from their homes, and tens of thousands of families are suffering from a lack of electricity and drinking water.

Faced with this critical situation, the Chilean executive has declared a state of emergency in several of the hardest-hit regions of the country.
