Ninth day of protests in Divjaka, residents burn Socialist Party membership cards and oppose merger with Lushnja

Residents of Divjaka protested for the ninth consecutive day today against the new territorial reform project. Citizens gather every evening in the town square, demanding that the Municipality of Divjaka remain a separate administrative unit and not be merged with Lushnja, as the project envisages.

According to the protesters, Divjaka’s historical, geographical and economic characteristics justify its continued operation as an independent municipality. They say the merger would make it more difficult to access services, as residents would have to travel greater distances for administrative matters. Citizens also raise concerns that such a decision would undermine Divjaka’s identity as a town.

Today’s protest also included a demand that, in the upcoming elections, Divjaka be represented by candidates from Divjaka. Residents argue that representatives should come from the area and have direct knowledge of its problems.

At the conclusion of the gathering, citizens marched, as they have on other evenings, along the town’s main roads. During the march, they took care not to obstruct the free movement of vehicles and citizens.
