New health minister vows in Parliament: Either I bring in the PET scanner or I will resign!

New Health Minister Klodiana Spahiu has begun her tenure with a promise: to bring a PET scanner to the Oncology Hospital, or else resign.

She made the pledge in Parliament, where she also took part in her first interpellation, promising that the equipment for patients with tumors would be made available in early 2027.

Speaking from the parliamentary rostrum, Spahiu said that every hour of her work would be dedicated to serving citizens and patients, assuring them that her office would be open to everyone.

She also addressed opposition MPs, telling them that she would not allow them to spread disinformation while she was in charge of the institution.

“It is a national challenge. I understand that you are making noise, but I am determined. I have spent 32 years in the system, 16 years as an MP and 16 years on the Health Committee. Do not forget one thing: I know very well what has happened, what changes the system has undergone and what I will offer Albanian citizens.

Every hour of my work will be dedicated to serving citizens and patients, and my office has been open to every complaint they may have since my first day on the job, from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. And for as long as I am here as health minister, I will not allow you to spread disinformation. The Oncology Institute will begin operating in January. In early 2027, either I bring in that PET scanner or I resign. I am telling you that right here,” Klodiana Spahiu said.

Minister Klodiana Spahiu also said that “today, the Oncology Hospital received guidelines on what will happen to patients diagnosed with cancer and to patients who require follow-up care after surgery.”
