Greek media have released security camera footage showing the prime suspect, 26-year-old Sharif Ahmadzai, pulling a black suitcase through the streets of the Greek capital. The victim’s body is believed to have been inside the suitcase.
Ahmadzai is also seen carrying a blue backpack in the footage. Investigators suspect that he then went to an abandoned building in Kypseli, where he left the suitcase containing the woman’s body.
Just around 13 minutes after arriving, the 26-year-old was captured on camera again leaving the building. At that point, he was no longer carrying either the suitcase or the backpack.
Although he denies committing the murder, Ahmadzai has said that he found the woman dead. He has admitted, however, to transporting the body, withdrawing money using the victim’s bank cards and sending deceptive messages to her relatives in an attempt to conceal the incident.
Greek authorities are continuing their investigation to clarify all the circumstances surrounding the death of the 38-year-old British woman.
According to British media outlets, including the Daily Mail, Ahmadzai was known in Athens as a professional super-lightweight boxer and was also involved in community work.
He went to Greece in 2016 as an unaccompanied minor refugee, travelling via the island of Lesbos. He later converted to Christianity and, in 2023, married American Aleena Hall.
Together with his wife, he founded the Christian organisation “Love Every Nation Athens,” which provided food and medicine to families in need. Ahmadzai also gave free boxing lessons to minor refugees.
