Nagavci condemns situation outside Assembly: Protests must not infringe on the rights of others

Arbërie Nagavci, head of the Parliamentary Group of the Vetëvendosje Movement, has reacted to developments during the protests held outside the Kosovo Assembly. She stressed that freedom of expression and the right to protest must be exercised without infringing on the rights of other citizens.

According to Nagavci, it is unacceptable for anyone to block citizens’ movement or launch attacks against members of parliament.

She said that both the protesters and the people who, in her view, are inciting the gatherings are aware that the debate on amending the Law on Specialist Chambers should have taken place earlier.

“What is happening now is unacceptable. The right to protest and freedom of speech cannot be used to violate the rights of others. No one can deny another person the right to move and speak, let alone attack members of parliament. We are aware, both those who are outside and some of those inciting the protests, that the debate on the substance of this issue should have taken place during the summer of 20215, in August 2015, and not in September 2026,” Nagavci said.

She added that both in the past and now, there has been an effort to expedite the process. According to her, the current aim is for the vote to be held hastily and under pressure, creating a climate that could lead to an escalation of the situation.

“At the first session, when the draft law amending the Law on Specialist Chambers was approved, it passed precisely because there was the will and signatures of LVV members of parliament,” Nagavci said.
