Murrizi accuses Rama: He is drafting the Code of Criminal Procedure to protect “white-collar crimes

Former Democratic Party MP Myslim Murrizi declared on the “Prime News24” program that the new draft law on the Code of Criminal Procedure, proposed by Prime Minister Edi Rama, aims to protect the personal interests of the head of government and corrupt officials.

According to Murrizi, the proposed changes provide for the removal of prison arrest for individuals involved in what he described as “white-collar crimes” in the state administration.

“He is making these changes for himself. The ambassador who has now arrived is strong. Rama is drafting a code of procedure for himself. The Code contains prison, the strongest coercive measure. All the crimes of these white-collar people in the state, he wants to remove prison arrest entirely,” Murrizi said.

Referring to the early years of governance, the former MP said that ordinary citizens ended up in prison for not paying electricity bills, for building a roof or even a chicken coop, while now the aim is to ease measures for officials.

Murrizi also spoke about the stance of the justice institutions, which, according to him, have opposed these initiatives but have no means of stopping them in Parliament because they do not have the necessary votes.

He said that under these conditions, the intervention of international partners will be decisive, from whom he expects a strong reaction to prevent the approval of the draft law.

“In the first four years, he put people in prison because they had not paid for electricity, for a roof, for a chicken coop. The justice system has reacted against it, but they do not have votes there in Parliament. I expect the internationals to react strongly and stop him from voting that law. The prosecutor’s offices, SPAK, the judges have no votes in Parliament,” Murrizi concluded.
