Mourinho denies a clear-out at Real Madrid: I want to keep the best players

Jose Mourinho has dismissed reports linking him to a sweeping overhaul at Real Madrid, making it clear that his aim is to work with the team’s key players rather than put them up for sale.

Speaking on the Beast Mode On podcast, the Portuguese coach commented on speculation that several important names could leave after a disappointing season at the Santiago Bernabeu.

“I have read some things saying that Jose Mourinho is coming here and will get rid of some of the main players. No. I want these players. I want the best ones,” Mourinho said.

The newly appointed Real Madrid manager admitted that in recent years there have been reports of problems in the dressing room, but stressed that managing elite-level footballers is a normal part of the job.

“Great players are great players. If you have problems with players who are not very good, then that is a big problem.”

Mourinho also highlighted the traits he values most, describing top stars as complete players with technical quality, physical strength, mental stability and commitment to the team.

His stance suggests that Real Madrid’s summer may be defined more by continuity than by a major revolution.
