More than 15,000 students enroll in high schools in North Macedonia, with over 9,000 places remaining vacant

In public high schools in North Macedonia, a total of 15,705 students were enrolled during the two enrollment periods for the 2026/2027 school year. Despite this, more than 9,000 places announced in the Ministry of Education and Science competition have still remained unfilled.

This year, the Ministry of Education and Science competition предусмотрено more than 25,000 available places in 109 public high schools across the country. Of that number, more than 17,000 places were intended for vocational education, around 6,000 for grammar schools, and 570 for arts education.

Official data show that 13,423 students were admitted in the first enrollment period, while another 2,927 were enrolled in the second period. Of the overall total, 11,171 students will continue their studies in the Macedonian language, 4,241 in Albanian, 279 in Turkish, and 14 in Serbian.

The greatest interest among ninth-grade graduates was in vocational education, where a total of 10,823 students enrolled. Meanwhile, 4,653 students chose grammar schools, while 229 enrolled in the Sports Academy.

For those students who submitted documents in the second enrollment period, in cases where the number of candidates is higher than the available places, the classification test will be organized on June 29. The results will also be announced on the same day.
