Montenegro Cuts Excise Duties on Diesel and Gasoline; Here Is How Much Fuel Costs in the Neighboring Country

Montenegrin media report that the government of Montenegro has again intervened by cutting fuel excise duties in an effort to curb rising prices.

According to RTCG, on August 25 the government further reduced excise duties on petroleum products, making Eurodiesel and Eurosuper 98 around 1 cent cheaper despite a further rise in prices on international markets.

This follows another government intervention on August 17, when the excise duty on diesel was reduced to cushion the rise in prices on the domestic market.

For the period from August 18 to 24, the maximum price was 1.88 euros per liter for Eurodiesel, 1.80 euros for Eurosuper 98, and 1.76 euros for Eurosuper 95.

From August 25, the excise duty on unleaded gasoline will be reduced to 0.522 euros ($0.600) per liter from the standard rate of 0.549 euros per liter, while the excise duty on diesel will be further reduced to 0.352 euros per liter from the 0.396 euros per liter set in mid-August and the standard rate of 0.440 euros per liter, the government said in a statement.

The new excise duty rates will remain in force until September 5.
