Moments of Terror in New Mexico: Bungee Ride Rope Snaps, Two Teens Crash into Metal Pole

A frightening incident occurred at an amusement park in New Mexico when the rope of an extreme attraction suddenly snapped while two teenagers were suspended in the air. As a result, the capsule they were in violently hit a metal pole, causing panic among visitors.

The accident was recorded on the ride known as the “Southwest Slinger,” located at the Western Playland amusement park.

According to information from the Sunland Park Fire Department, the two teenagers – a boy and a girl – were checked at the scene by emergency crews. Fortunately, they sustained only minor injuries and declined to be taken to the hospital for further treatment.

After the cable snapped, the ride’s mechanism jammed and the capsule remained dangling high up. Thanks to the intervention of firefighters, the passengers were slowly lowered to the ground and given prompt medical assistance there.

Western Playland’s management acknowledged the incident and stated that the attraction in question was immediately taken out of service as a safety precaution.

“The Southwest Slinger will remain closed until the completion of a thorough investigation, which is being conducted in cooperation with all parties involved. For us, the safety of visitors and staff is absolutely paramount,” the park’s official statement said.

Western Playland spans an area of about 25 acres and has been a beloved destination for families and adrenaline enthusiasts for more than five decades. Positioned in the southwestern region of the United States, the park remains one of the most frequented amusement spots there.

Competent authorities have launched an investigation to shed light on the circumstances of this accident and to verify compliance with technical safety standards on the ride.
