MoH responds to the death of 37-year-old pregnant woman during transport to Tirana: All healthcare will be evaluated

The Ministry of Health and Social Welfare has responded following the death of pregnant patient Marjana Karolina Bunaj, expressing its condolences to her family and announcing that the case will undergo a full review.

MoHSW said it has requested an independent assessment of how the situation was managed, from the moment the patient presented at the healthcare institution through to the completion of her treatment.

According to the ministry, the verification will be conducted professionally and impartially, with every stage of the healthcare provided being analyzed.

The institution stated that it would responsibly follow up on the findings of this process. If violations, shortcomings or irregularities are identified in the treatment of the patient, the necessary measures will be taken in accordance with the law and professional standards.

Marjana Karolina Bunaj died while being transported to Tirana, where she was being taken to receive specialized medical care. Her family has raised concerns about the way the situation was managed at the Pogradec maternity hospital and is calling for the circumstances to be fully clarified.

The safety of the mother, as well as the timely and quality provision of obstetric care in accordance with established standards, remain non-negotiable responsibilities of the healthcare system.
