Mitsotakis: North Macedonia has not made significant progress in EU negotiations

During the 90th Thessaloniki International Fair, Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis spoke about Greece’s relations with North Macedonia and Albania, while reaffirming Athens’ strong support for the European integration of the Western Balkans.

Mitsotakis clarified that progress towards the European Union is examined separately for each country and measured by the progress made in each chapter of the accession negotiations.

For North Macedonia, the head of the Greek government said that no significant progress has been evident in EU talks. According to him, Skopje is at a noticeably earlier stage of the process compared to Albania.

“Greece strongly supports the European perspective of the Western Balkans, but this does not mean we do not examine each case individually,” he stated, according to Greek media reports.

Referring to Albania, Mitsotakis said concerns persist about the Greek national minority, particularly regarding property registration and the guarantee of its rights.

“Progress in registering assets and protecting all rights is insufficient,” the Greek prime minister said, warning that Greece will defend its rights whenever necessary.
