Ministry of Interior appeals to citizens: Do not open fraudulent messages claiming to have been sent by “Safe City

The Ministry of Interior has announced that, recently, phishing attacks have been identified, distributed through fake SMS messages, emails, websites, mobile applications and messages on social networks.

According to the Ministry of Interior, these communications appear to have been sent by the Motor Vehicles Department within the “Safe City” system. They contain a fraudulent link directing citizens to make a payment for an alleged traffic violation.

Authorities are urging citizens to exercise caution when using the internet, not to click on suspicious messages or links, and not to send personal data through unauthorized channels. This includes bank card numbers, passwords and personal identifiers. Citizens are also advised to verify the sender’s address, as official institutions and companies use official domains, to activate two-factor authentication (2FA), and to report any suspicious message to the relevant institutions or the relevant bank.

The Ministry of Interior explains that SMS notifications regarding a committed violation must come from the sender “MVR-SC”. The message must contain the license plate of the vehicle that committed the offense, as well as a link in the format https://safecountry.mvr.gov.mk…

“The Cybercrime Sector at the Ministry of Interior continues its active investigation and is taking measures to identify and sanction the perpetrators of this type of fraud,” the Ministry of Interior said.
