The wreckage was later located near the coastal town of Igbokoda, in Ondo State, by search-and-rescue teams.
Aviation Minister Festus Keyamo confirmed the crash, while Nigerian President Bola Tinubu expressed “deep sadness” and offered his condolences to the victims’ families.
“I have directed the Nigerian Air Force to immediately launch a full investigation into the cause of the crash, in order to prevent such incidents in the future,” Tinubu said.
The incident ranks among the deadliest air disasters in Nigeria in recent years. Authorities have opened an investigation to determine the causes of the accident.
