Mickoski: ‘Talir 2’ Case Was a Fabrication, VMRO-DPMNE Targeted by Past Government’s Aggression

Prime Minister Hristijan Mickoski stated that the party he leads faced an organized campaign of political persecution during the previous government’s mandate, describing the whole situation as a form of direct attack. He made these comments after the decision to acquit former Prime Minister Nikola Gruevski in the “Talir 2” case and the lifting of measures on VMRO-DPMNE’s assets.

“They fabricated a phantom case, called ‘Talir 1 and 2’. Finally, yesterday, the Court issued a verdict for the VMRO-DPMNE party that is in line with the principles of justice and the people’s expectations,” Mickoski said during a visit to the Municipality of Saraj. He added that the other part of the decision, relating to the accused person, stems from the amendments that the SDSM and DUI majority brought to the Criminal Code.

According to him, it was precisely these legal changes that brought numerous amnesties, a chain of consequences that continues even today. “When you make a mistake, it becomes the norm and persecutes you. But for VMRO-DPMNE, justice has finally been served,” the prime minister concluded.

Former Prime Minister Gruevski was acquitted in the “Talir 2” trial, which concerned allegations of irregular construction of the party’s headquarters. During the announcement, the judge stressed that the acquittal was a result of modifications to the Criminal Code, but also that the prosecution failed to present sufficient evidence to support Gruevski’s guilt during the trial.
