Mickoski: Police High School to open classes in Albanian, but interest remains low

Prime Minister Hristijan Mickoski said that the “7 May” Police High School will also offer instruction in Albanian, as well as in other languages, if the necessary conditions are met.

“Yes, absolutely, there is no problem here. Naturally, if the conditions are met, there will be classes this year where instruction will be conducted in Albanian. There should be no challenge for any of the enrolled students or their parents,” Mickoski assured.

According to the prime minister, the number of people interested in this educational institution has been low. He added that, for this reason, the government had decided to ease the admission criteria.

“Of nearly 453 students registered at the high school, 41 in the first screening are of non-Macedonian ethnic origin. So, interest is low. This has nothing to do with any kind of ethnic segregation.

The initial screening concerned exemplary conduct and regular attendance, as these are NATO standards. Only students who met these requirements could move on to the second stage.

“Ultimately, we want NATO, we want the EU, so we must follow the standards. Only those with exemplary conduct move on to the second round.

Initially, a limit of 200 high school students had been planned. However, the government decided to accept all candidates who passed the first screening, namely the exemplary-conduct screening,” said Mikcoski.
