MIA refutes statement published by Jorida Tabaku: Post attributed to Rama is fake

The Media and Information Agency has reacted to a statement reshared by Democratic Party MP Jorida Tabaku, which was presented as a response from Prime Minister Edi Rama.

According to MIA, it is a falsified text that was not published by the head of government and contains nothing true.

The agency has asked the DP lawmaker to remove the post and apologize to those who may have been misled by the forgery.

“Ms. Jorida Tabaku has reshared a falsified (fake) statement that is falsely attributed to Prime Minister Edi Rama. We would like to make it clear that this text was not published by the Prime Minister and contains nothing true. It would be appropriate for Ms. Tabaku to withdraw the repost and apologize to those who have fallen victim to this forgery,” MIA wrote.

The statement reshared by Tabaku concerned Law 21/2024 and the European Parliament’s request for its repeal.

The fake text claimed that the Socialists had approved an “unconstitutional” law, in violation of nature protection and European integration. It also stated that the government was using the referendum as a way to evade responsibility.

“When the Socialists voted for an unconstitutional law, in violation of nature protection and European integration, they did not ask the people.

Now that the European Parliament is calling for its repeal, the Prime Minister remembers the sovereign and invents a referendum as an alibi to evade responsibility.

For more than 80 days, hundreds of thousands of Albanians have been protesting and calling for his removal. Will he respect this will as well?

Democracy is neither a whim nor a propaganda tool. The European Parliament is not asking for ‘a little patience.’ It is calling for the repeal of the law!” the post attributed to Rama stated.

Another part of the statement claimed that, for more than 80 days, hundreds of thousands of Albanians had been protesting and calling for the Prime Minister’s removal.

The post disputed by MIA also contained another statement attributed to Edi Rama, according to which the government appreciated the European Union’s interest, but the issue had to be put to a referendum.

“Regarding the European Parliament’s request for the repeal of Law 21/2024, I want to be clear:

I appreciate the interest and concern of our friends in the EU, but there is news greater than any resolution: the Albanian people have chosen the path of a referendum! 🇦🇱

This is democracy in action. We are a country where the sovereign is the people, and the government does not stand in the way of their will. Therefore, we fully respect this civic initiative.

If they ask me in September, ‘Why have you not repealed the Law?’, I will tell them the very simple truth:

Because the people have decided to decide for themselves, and I respect the sovereign!” the published text stated.

MIA categorically stressed that Edi Rama did not publish this statement and that the content was falsely attributed to the Prime Minister.
