Mexico on alert as Hurricane “Polo” is expected to make landfall on Monday evening

Mexican authorities have been placed on high alert as a powerful hurricane rapidly approaches the country’s coast.

Storm “Polo” has temporarily reached the maximum intensity of a devastating Category 5 hurricane and is expected to cause severe consequences, including major flooding and landslides. According to the latest data from the US National Hurricane Center, it is currently affecting the Mexican states of Jalisco and Michoacan.

Forecasts indicate that “Polo” will change direction significantly, initially moving northeast before turning over Baja California Sur.

The Mexican government and the US Embassy in Mexico expect the weather system to gradually weaken and make landfall as a Category 1 hurricane. However, the risk remains high because of the substantial rainfall accompanying the storm.

To respond to the situation and organize emergency evacuations, the government has deployed around 20,000 military personnel to the areas affected by the hurricane.

Residents of low-lying territories and coastal areas have been advised to strictly comply with evacuation orders in order to prevent loss of life.
