Meteorologist Tanja Porja’s warning: July will be “scorching,” with temperatures expected to exceed 41 degrees Celsius

Well-known meteorologist Tanja Porja, during an interview on Dita Jonë on A2 CNN, warned that July will be even hotter than June, with temperatures in some parts of the country potentially exceeding 41-42°C, while it is not ruled out that they could locally approach historical records.

“Tirana recorded 40.1 degrees, Shkodra exceeded 41 degrees, and in fact these belong to the month of June, but we expect not only 41 but more than 41 during the month we have just entered, July.

July is expected to be considerably more scorching than June. We expect 41-42 degrees during July, but the intensity could be high, so thermal values could reach 42.5 or 43,” Porja said.

According to her, the cooler weather that began in the first days of July will last only a few days, with maximum temperatures of 34-36°C across most of the country.

However, after July 7, a new heat wave is expected, caused by the penetration of very hot air masses from North Africa.

“As for the first July heat wave that we expect in a few days, from July 7 or beyond July 7 and onward, we expect another heat wave, which has shown signs of being of higher intensity, which means there is an inflow, a penetration of the hot air mass from North Africa much farther than the Balkans. It will go all the way up into northeastern Europe, and the farther this extremely hot air mass rises toward northeastern Europe, the more problematic it will be for Albania and for the Balkans. This will cause temperatures typical of North Africa to be recorded in southern Italy, Greece, Turkey, on these Mediterranean islands, and consequently also in Albanian territory,” the meteorologist said.

Porja also explained that, unlike the long June heat wave, which exerted continuous thermal stress on the body, the first heat wave of July is expected to be more intense but of shorter duration, around 4-5 days.

The meteorologist warned that high temperatures will favor the formation of local storms with intense rainfall, hail, and strong winds, especially in mountainous and hilly areas, also risking damage to agricultural crops.

She stressed that high air humidity will make the heat feel even heavier, significantly increasing the perceived temperature.

According to Porja, the most favorable climate conditions for summer holidays remain mountain and lakeside areas, especially Pogradec and Puka.

According to forecasts, August is also expected to be very hot, while above-normal temperatures may continue during the first 10 days of October as well.
