Mehmeti: The Assembly’s vote on the Special Court has no effect

On Monday, Kosovo’s Assembly adopted a declaration on the verdict issued by the Special Court in The Hague against four former KLA leaders.

Analyst Faton Mehmeti told “Bota sot” that the vote has no bearing on the Special Court’s decision. According to him, the initiative is an attempt by the PDK to absolve itself of responsibility for its role in establishing the court.

Mehmeti said the vote does not change the current situation and has no effect on the decision handed down by the court. He described it as a way for the PDK to try to justify the fact that it was the party that established the court.

He also criticized the Democratic League of Kosovo for supporting the initiative. According to Mehmeti, the LDK should have abstained, given that the indictment refers, according to the prosecution, to the killings of several PDK figures.

Mehmeti said the LDK has lost a great deal and has distanced itself from its reality, tradition and philosophy, describing it as a party of deals and narrow interests.

Expressing regret over what he sees as the LDK’s decline, he reiterated that the party should not have joined the PDK’s initiative. Mehmeti said the initiative does not represent a party program but seeks to absolve the PDK, concluding by calling it a show with no effect whatsoever.
