Mehani: The final plots in Skënderaj are being leased for 99 years; accuses Lushtaku

VV official Hysni Mehani has accused Skënderaj Mayor Sami Lushtaku over the initiation of procedures to lease municipal property. According to Mehani, the procedure began five days after the Special Court’s decision on the KLA leaders.

In a Facebook post, Mehani said the properties are located at the city’s former market and are worth around 1 million euros. He claims they are planned to be leased for 99 years for the construction of housing.

Mehani linked the issue to citizens’ focus on the Special Court’s decision, claiming that public property is being “traded under the rug and covered with patriotism.” He also accused Lushtaku of benefiting, along with his circle, from leasing the property.

Just five days after the Special Court’s decision on the KLA leaders, Sami Lushtaku begins procedures to lease the municipal property for the purpose of building housing.

These are the properties at the city’s former market, which are intended to be leased for 99 years through a negotiated procedure by the mayor.

In general, this course of action has brought builders major profits, as they obtain properties worth millions of euros under highly favorable conditions. In reality, the builders only handle the rough construction. You will never see the real owners listed in the documents, but the citizens of Skënderaj know them well.

Therefore, the leasing of public property for housing construction has been and continues to be profitable for Sami Lushtaku and his circle, although the law prohibits leasing municipal property for this purpose.

Two issues must be emphasized here:

1. While citizens’ attention has been focused on the Special Court’s decision, property worth 1 million euros is being traded under the rug, covered with patriotism, without attracting attention.

2. Grief over the sentencing of the KLA leaders does not stop the desire to do business with municipal property. On the contrary, it creates an environment for smuggling it away.
