Massive Fire Engulfs Legendary Fontainebleau Forest Near Paris, 400 Firefighters and Farmers Battle Flames

Massive flames have this time seized the renowned Fontainebleau forest, located southeast of the French capital, as the destructive wave of fires continues to engulf various parts of the European continent.

Firefighting forces have been mobilized on an unprecedented scale for the Ile-de-France region, with authorities describing the incident as a disaster of “extraordinary proportions.” Train movement in the area was suspended, and the dense column of smoke was clearly visible from a distance of 20 kilometers.

On the front line of the firefight are about 400 personnel, joined by farmers and residents of surrounding villages. The latter have brought their tractors equipped with water tanks to assist in the extinguishing operations.

Initial reports speak of severe damage: around 800 hectares of forest area have been consumed by the fire. Emergency teams are working intensively to regain control of the situation and to block the further advance of the flames.
