Macron: Russian hybrid attacks against France have intensified, “the nature of the aggression is changing

France and other European countries have faced an increase in Russian hybrid attacks in recent weeks, French President Emmanuel Macron said.

Following a meeting with the leaders of the political parties represented in the National Assembly, Macron said at a press conference that the threat from Russia had grown. According to French broadcaster BFM, he said that in recent weeks, the Russian hybrid threat to Europeans and France in particular had intensified.

“The nature of Russian aggression is changing,” the French president stressed.

Among the incidents he described as examples of this threat, Macron mentioned the attack on a train linking Poland and Ukraine, drone incursions into the airspace of European countries, and an attempt to carry out a drone attack on Leipzig Airport in Germany.

German authorities have blamed Russia for the attempted drone attack on Leipzig Airport, which took place in August.

Another incident was reported in Ukraine last weekend, when former British Prime Minister Boris Johnson was involved in a security incident after the train he was traveling on was hit by a Russian drone.

Macron’s warnings come at a time when European countries have increased their focus on activities they consider part of Russia’s hybrid warfare, including the use of drones, sabotage and interference with critical infrastructure.
