Macedonia’s ruby heads toward international certification and promotion

On Monday, September 21, the Ministry of Energy, Mining and Mineral Raw Materials will announce the next measures for protecting, certifying and promoting Macedonia’s ruby.

One of the main objectives is to establish a mechanism guaranteeing the certification and traceability of the stone’s origin, alongside efforts to introduce it to international markets. Minister Sanja Bozhinovska, the Macedonian Ruby Commission and representatives of the responsible institutions will report on the work completed so far and the steps expected to be taken.

This precious stone is extracted in the area of Prilep and in Mariovo. Its distinctive feature is its raspberry-pink color, which is linked to its chromium content. The institutional initiative to protect Macedonia’s ruby was launched in September 2025.
