Macedonian hits ambulance driver in Serbia and is arrested

Serbian authorities arrested a citizen of North Macedonia today after he struck an emergency service worker with his truck.

According to the Leskovac Police Department, the person was located and handcuffed after his heavy vehicle struck the driver of a parked ambulance in the emergency lane near Grdelica.

The authorities have ordered detention of up to 48 hours for the suspect.

The serious incident occurred yesterday afternoon in the Grdelica area, when an ambulance transporting a 10-year-old child from Vranje to Niš suffered a technical failure.

While the ambulance driver had stepped out to repair the breakdown, a truck hit him.

Preliminary data indicate that the truck collided with the ambulance’s open door, which then forcefully threw the driver.

As a result of the impact, he fell and hit his head on the concrete surface, and was rushed to the University Clinical Center in Niš with severe injuries.

Coincidentally, a female doctor was at the accident scene and took over transporting the boy, who was suspected of having appendicitis, taking him to Niš in her personal vehicle.
