MACEDONIA FACES EXTREME TEMPERATURE SWINGS: From Snow and Cold to Heat of Up to 38°C

Macedonia is facing a sharp change in the weather following the unusual cold that brought snowfall to the Šar Mountains and Pelister on Friday, July 24, as well as this morning’s exceptionally cool temperatures for July.

According to meteorologist Slavčo Poposki, a significantly warmer air mass from the south, specifically from Africa, will move over the country from the beginning of the week.

Poposki said temperatures will rise rapidly from Monday and in the days that follow. Across most of Macedonia, temperatures will range from above 30 to 35 degrees Celsius, while in the Povardarie region and southeastern parts of the country, the mercury will reach up to 38 degrees Celsius.

He explained that local instability is forecast only for Monday, July 27, when there may be heavy rain showers, thunderstorms and stronger winds.

Starting Tuesday, July 28, atmospheric conditions will stabilize completely. The weather will be mostly sunny and stable, with only a few clouds in certain areas.

The meteorologist warned that sudden and pronounced shifts from low to high temperatures could have adverse effects, particularly on people who are sensitive to changes in the weather.
