LVV decides to support Çitaku and Shala tomorrow for deputy speakers of the Assembly

The leadership of the Vetëvendosje Movement held an extraordinary meeting and decided that, at the next session, it would vote for PDK’s Vlora Çitaku and LDK’s Kujtim Shala for the positions of deputy speakers of the Assembly.

According to LVV, the decision aims to preserve institutional stability following the June 7 elections and avoid holding new elections, which it considers unnecessary and costly for the state, citizens and the budget.

The constitutive session is expected to resume tomorrow at 10:00 a.m. LVV expects PDK and LDK, after the constitution of the Assembly, to show “constructiveness” and take part in the vote for the president proposed under the LVV-LDK agreement, even if their vote is against.

LVV has stressed that repeated early elections would be the fourth such election within less than two years.

In its statement, the ruling party recalled that in 2025, together with its pre-election coalition partners and non-majority community lawmakers, it had 57 deputies, four fewer than the required number. Following the implementation of the Constitutional Court’s ruling, LVV says it changed its candidate for speaker of the Assembly four times, until Dimal Basha was elected on August 26, five months after the results of the February 9 elections were certified.

According to LVV, the opposition parties’ rejection of Albulena Haxhiu’s candidacy was followed by the rejection of the candidacies of Donika Gërvalla, Hekuran Murati and Arbërie Nagavci.

Despite the fact that PDK and LDK have not changed the names of their candidates, the LVV leadership has decided to vote for Vlora Çitaku and Kujtim Shala.

The party announced that as soon as PDK lawmakers re-nominate Vlora Çitaku tomorrow morning, giving her two additional opportunities, its lawmakers will support her with their votes.

LVV also hopes that Kujtim Shala, in his capacity as the future deputy speaker of the Assembly, will be present at the session where Bekim Sejdiu will be voted on as president, in accordance with the agreement between LVV and LDK.
