Lushtaku: Kurti-Hamza meeting and the PDK’s position on the Specialist Chambers

Kosovo Democratic Party (PDK) MP Mërgim Lushtaku said they still had no official information about the topics discussed at last night’s meeting between Prime Minister Albin Kurti and PDK leader Bedri Hamza.

As he entered Parliament, Lushtaku said they would learn more about the conversation at the parliamentary group meeting, which is being held before today’s plenary session.

“We are still not clear on everything that was discussed, and we have no official information. We will be briefed in more detail at today’s parliamentary group meeting. I think the main issue was reaching a common position in Parliament on supporting the former leaders of the Kosovo Liberation Army (KLA). It would be foolish not to have unity on this. PDK has also put forward its proposal on the Specialist Chambers. We call on all parties, without distinction, to support this issue, because the country’s past, present and future are at stake. It is important for political parties to reach full agreement, since the KLA is, above all, a shared value,” Lushtaku said.

Asked whether the meeting had also addressed the issue of the president, the MP said it should not be linked to the need for Parliament to pass the draft law amending the law on the Specialist Chambers.

“This position should be discussed within the parliamentary group, but I would not link this issue to the president. This is an urgent request that calls for unity, while the issue of the president is more closely tied to political negotiations. No conditions should be imposed when support is being sought for the political position or for the draft law on the Specialist Chambers,” he concluded.
