Lushaku: LDK is ready to help elect Kosovo’s president

Jehona Lushaku, head of the Democratic League of Kosovo’s parliamentary group, said her party was ready to contribute to the election of Kosovo’s president.

Speaking after a plenary session of the Kosovo Assembly, where the Declaration on the Specialist Chambers’ judgment was adopted, Lushaku said leaders of all political parties had met.

She called on political forces to show the will to elect a president and avoid holding new elections.

“The leaders of all parties have met to coordinate the state’s next steps. The agenda included several important processes, including the issue of the president, as well as coordination on this declaration. The aim is to find a solution to each problem as soon as possible. As a party, we have said that elections should be avoided, but that depends on the will of all political parties. We cannot elect Kosovo’s president on our own, but we are ready to contribute to establishing these institutions. At this stage, we cannot say whether we are for or against it,” she said.

Lushaku also commented on the declaration proposed by the Democratic Party of Kosovo, which was adopted by the Assembly.

She said the Democratic League of Kosovo supports any decision the Kosovo Assembly makes regarding the four defendants in The Hague and in support of the Kosovo Liberation Army.

“We fully understand our institutional responsibility to appreciate and honor the contributions of our young women and men in the Kosovo Liberation Army, in the fight to liberate the country and secure the freedom we enjoy today. Therefore, we have a duty to support and honor our liberation struggle. We want to contribute to ensuring that Kosovo is independent and free, and that its independent institutions function and guarantee justice for all citizens,” Lushaku said.
