LIVE: Kurti proposes deal with PDK on president and Special Court

Kosovo’s acting Prime Minister, Albin Kurti, has announced a proposal that, according to him, would unblock the process of electing the president. His formula foresees linking this process to the vote on the draft law amending the Law on Specialist Chambers.

During a press conference on Tuesday, Kurti addressed PDK leader Bedri Hamza, asking that the party’s MPs take part in the vote for president. In exchange, the parliamentary majority would proceed with the vote on the draft law on the Specialist Chambers.

According to Kurti, it would not be necessary for all PDK MPs to participate, but at least half of the parliamentary group.

“Half of the parliamentary group, just half, not all. All would be even better, but just half,” Kurti declared.

His proposal also includes a public pledge from Bedri Hamza, through which he would confirm that PDK MPs would take part in the president election procedure.

Kurti proposed that, in the same Assembly session, the second-reading vote on the draft law on the Specialist Chambers be held and then the president also be voted on.

As possible candidates for the post of president, he mentioned Glauk Konjufca and Ferid.

“So, one Assembly session tonight, with two items: the vote on the draft law on the Special Court at second reading and the vote for president,” Kurti said.

The prime minister stressed that the election of the president and changes to the law on Specialist Chambers should not condition or block each other.

Earlier it was announced that Albin Kurti would hold a press conference tonight at 19:45 at the Prime Minister’s Office.

The announcement for the conference was made by Arlind Manxhuka, who called on media representatives to cover it.

Initially, no details were published regarding the topic Prime Minister Kurti would speak about.

The conference was expected to bring more information on current developments and the government’s positions.
