LIVE: Abdixhiku Says Offer of Three Ministries and One Deputy Prime Minister Was Unacceptable to LDK

Lumir Abdixhiku, leader of the Democratic League of Kosovo (LDK), said that his party had sought fair and proportional representation in a joint government. According to him, the offer, which included only three ministries and the post of deputy prime minister, could not be accepted.

He explained that the LDK wanted to participate in government with clearly defined responsibilities and powers so that the institutions could function democratically and sustainably.

Abdixhiku said that a governing parliamentary group with 48 MPs should have representation in line with the election result and Kosovo’s needs.

“We were offered only three ministries and one deputy prime minister. But a governing parliamentary group of 48 MPs was disproportionate to the election result and Kosovo’s needs,” Abdixhiku said.

According to him, the LDK’s demands included three ministries, six deputy ministers, the post of deputy prime minister, as well as a stronger role in forming the executive.

“We asked to have a more engaged and responsible force that would enable us to move the country forward,” he said.

The LDK leader said this was why his party did not accept the formula that provided for only three ministries and the post of deputy prime minister for Vetëvendosje, while the post of prime minister would go to the other party.

In Abdixhiku’s assessment, it was precisely this offer that ultimately determined the course of the negotiations.

“That is why we rejected such a proposal: three ministries and the deputy prime minister for the Vetëvendosje Movement, and the prime minister for the other party. And that was it. The unacceptable proposal effectively settled the battle,” Abdixhiku said.
