Lirim Gashi Explodes Against Serbian Rhetoric: We Are Dealing with Shameful Propaganda

Analyst Lirim Gashi has issued a strong public reaction against what he describes as nationalist rhetoric from Serbia and the defense of statements that minimize or justify historical crimes.

In a lengthy statement, Gashi accuses supporters of President Aleksandar Vučić’s line and other figures from Serbian political and military history of systematically spreading propaganda, manipulating public opinion through nationalist narratives that evade responsibility for war crimes.

According to the analyst, the ideology of “Greater Serbia” has caused deep harm to the Serbian people themselves, pushing the country toward self-isolation and significantly worsening living conditions for its citizens.

Gashi devotes a significant portion of his reaction to the statement of Serbian minister Snežana Paunović, who had expressed regret that Slobodan Milošević did not complete the ethnic cleansing in Kosovo. He strongly condemns any attempt to justify this statement, calling the defense of a claim that essentially laments why a nation was not completely annihilated or expelled intolerable.

Furthermore, the analyst attacks narratives that portray Serbia as a perpetual victim and that refuse to accept any responsibility for past events. He calls these propaganda and direct attempts to distort public perception.

In conclusion, Gashi gives a note of support to Serbian politician Nikola Sandulović, whom he sees as a spokesperson for honest and democratic citizens of Serbia. He adds that the country urgently needs figures who lead toward reconciliation, transparency, and the abandonment of hate policies.

In his full message, Gashi sarcastically addresses the followers of Vučić and controversial figures of Serbian history, calling them masters of cynicism and lies. He accuses them of turning citizens into hostages of their myths and ambitions, while they themselves live like parasites off the budget filled precisely by the poor strata.

He ironically notes that the louder they cheer for “Greater Serbia,” the deeper the emptiness, isolation, and regression of the country become. Comparing them to heirs of a genocidal mindset, Gashi writes that the only thing they excel at is the art of finding justifications for the impossible.

Regarding Paunović’s statement, he is very blunt: “Instead of distancing yourselves from a statement that calls for the completion of a genocide, you defend it as if it were nothing serious. And then you expect others to treat you as voices of morality and victims.” He closes by citing Dobrica Ćosić’s idea of the lie as a political virtue and emphasizing that such stances do not speak of human error, but of a willful justification of violence against an indigenous people.
