Lindsey Graham’s Sister Takes His Temporary Senate Seat: ‘I Consider It an Honor to Continue His Work’

Darline Graham Nordone, the sister of the late U.S. Senator Lindsey Graham, has been appointed by South Carolina Governor Henry McMaster to temporarily hold the vacant seat in the United States Senate.

During a press appearance, Nordone said she feels privileged to carry on her brother’s legacy and emphasized her commitment to defending the interests of South Carolina citizens, as well as standing by the U.S. administration.

“I have always felt proud of Lindsey. His absence is deeper than any words I can say, but I will take on this duty,” she said.

Governor McMaster revealed that he presented the offer to Nordone early Sunday morning and praised her determination to accept without hesitation.

Her appointment has also received the blessing of President Donald Trump. Via a message on the Truth Social platform, he confirmed that he had personally suggested to Governor McMaster to appoint Darline Graham Nordone as temporary senator, viewing it as a form of honoring Lindsey Graham’s memory.

South Carolina legislation gives the governor authority to fill a vacant Senate seat with a temporary replacement. However, since Graham’s term was nearing its end and he would have been a candidate in this year’s elections, a special electoral process will be organized to determine the senator who will run in the November vote.

Darline Graham Nordone and Lindsey Graham had an exceptionally strong sibling bond. After the loss of both parents, when she was only 13 years old, Lindsey assumed the role of her legal guardian, taking care of her upbringing and well-being until adulthood.

Meanwhile, the contest for this Senate position is expected to be highly competitive. U.S. media report that in the Republican camp, the names of Congressmen Nancy Mace and Ralph Norman are circulating as possible candidates. The winner of the Republican primary will face Democratic candidate Annie Andrews in the November elections.
