Liburn Aliu announces the conclusion of the Special Prosecution’s investigation against him

Former Vetëvendosje Movement MP Liburn Aliu announced that the Special Prosecution had decided to discontinue the investigation against him, which had begun around two years earlier.

According to Aliu, the procedure also examined his assets and those of his family, as well as income generated over the years. He stressed that these assets and sources of income had been regularly declared since the beginning of 2011 and continuously up to the present, including after he assumed his new position.

Aliu said that throughout this period he had faced accusations, slander and serious insults directed at him, his family and the national ideal that, as he put it, he had tried to live by modestly.

Nevertheless, he chose not to respond to the attacks and calmly awaited the progress of the investigation, saying that he had been ready to face the truth.

In a statement addressed to citizens, the former MP said he had received the decision to discontinue the investigation from his lawyer. According to him, the decision was made on September 11 and communicated to him on the morning of Friday, October 2.

He added that the case had been accompanied by extensive media speculation over the past two years and that, despite its conclusion, it could continue to be the subject of attacks and slander.

Aliu said that at a time when fake news spreads easily, he remained ready to face the truth. In closing, he thanked everyone who had believed in him.
