Large Economic Crimes Operation: More Than 40 Locations Searched, Suspicions of Fraud in Oil Imports

A large-scale operation led by the Special Prosecution has been underway since the early hours of the morning, taking place in more than 40 locations across Kosovo, following a months-long investigation into suspicions of an organized criminal scheme.

The operation involves the Special Prosecution, the TAK Tax Investigation Unit, the Kosovo Police, and the Investigation Unit of Kosovo Customs, media sources said.

According to the same sources, the investigation concerns suspicions of money laundering, tax and customs evasion, as well as fictitious transactions in the petroleum derivatives sector.

The sources also say there are suspicions of a criminal scheme through which importing companies from Albania are alleged to have brought in water instead of petroleum derivatives, using shell companies and active companies in Kosovo to carry out the scheme and conceal the trail of transactions.

According to the sources, the TAK Tax Investigations also suspect that some of the businesses involved issued fictitious invoices for alleged imports of petroleum derivatives, with the aim of evading tax obligations and securing незаконные financial gains.

The operation is still ongoing.
