Kyiv under attack overnight with ballistic missiles and drones as Russia’s offensive in Ukraine continues

Ukraine’s capital has experienced an intensification of Russian attacks for weeks, occurring mainly at night but in some cases during the day as well.

In the early hours of the morning, powerful explosions were heard in Kyiv, and Ukrainian air defenses were activated during an alert over a new Russian air attack, according to reports by AFP and Reuters.

Via Telegram, the Ukrainian Air Force warned that more ballistic missiles were approaching Kyiv.

Journalists in Kyiv described the attack as a combined assault involving missiles and drones.

The previous day, one woman was killed and six others were injured after a Russian drone set fire to the Academy of Sciences in Kyiv, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said. According to information released by the head of state, nine people were killed and around 80 others were injured across the country.

Last week, Zelensky again called on Western allies to provide more interceptor missiles for Patriot air-defense systems, which are the only ones capable of intercepting the ballistic missiles Ukraine has to contend with.
