Kusari-Lila: Next steps for the Specialist Chambers require broad consensus

The Minister of Industry, Entrepreneurship, Trade and Innovation has stated that any future decision related to the Specialist Chambers must be supported by broad social consensus and the involvement of all institutions.

Asked about the initiative aimed at amending and supplementing the Law on the Specialist Chambers, Kusari-Lila said that cooperation must be established between institutions and political entities on this issue.

She clarified that she is currently speaking in her capacity as minister, not as a member of parliament, but stressed that the next steps must be the result of broad social consensus and be carefully examined from a legal perspective. According to her, efforts should also aim to increase the possibility of the full release of the four leaders of the Kosovo Liberation Army who are being held in The Hague.

Kusari-Lila said that this requires full engagement at all levels, including the parties that have so far been in opposition, the government and the Assembly with its majority, so that support for this legal process, which she described as highly challenging for the country, can lead to success.

A day earlier, the Democratic Party of Kosovo submitted to the Assembly a draft law amending and supplementing the Law on the Specialist Chambers and the Specialist Prosecutor’s Office.

The Vetëvendosje Movement said it would analyze the initiative from a legal perspective, including its compliance with the legal framework in force and the impact that such an intervention could have on proceedings before the Specialist Chambers.
