Kurti arrives at Parliament ahead of meeting with Bedri Hamza

Acting Prime Minister and at the same time leader of the Vetëvendosje Movement, Albin Kurti, has gone to the building of the Assembly of the Republic of Kosovo, where he is expected to meet the leader of the Democratic Party of Kosovo, Bedri Hamza.

Upon arrival, he was accompanied by acting Finance Minister Hekuran Murati.

Before the start of the meeting, Kurti said he expected the talks to take place in a constructive atmosphere.

“I expect the meeting to be constructive and for us to constitute the institutions,” he said.

This meeting between the two leaders is being held as part of efforts to constitute the country’s new institutions.

Later today, Kurti is also expected to hold separate meetings with the leader of the Democratic League of Kosovo, Lumir Abdixhiku, as part of ongoing consultations on the formation of the new institutions.

The meeting with Hamza is scheduled for 09:00, while the one with Abdixhiku is set for 18:00, and both will be held on the premises of the Kosovo Assembly.

These meetings follow the letter Kurti sent inviting the leaders of the PDK, LDK and the Alliance for the Future of Kosovo to meet, something confirmed by government spokesperson Fatlum Jashari. The invitations were sent one day after the certification of the results of the June 7 parliamentary elections.

Bedri Hamza has announced that the PDK responded positively to the invitation and is ready for the meeting. He stressed that the dialogue should initially focus on the government program, the country’s priorities and challenges, and not on the division of posts.

Participation has also been confirmed by LDK leader Lumir Abdixhiku, who said he would attend in good faith to hear Vetëvendosje’s proposals and help avoid new elections. He also announced that he would hold meetings with representatives of the PDK and AAK to understand their positions.

On the other hand, the Alliance for the Future of Kosovo has rejected the invitation to meet. Its leader, Ardian Gjini, published the official letter addressed to Kurti, which says that the Alliance does not consider such a meeting necessary, while maintaining the position it announced on June 26. According to the party, support for the creation of institutions remains conditional on the acceptance of the six points of the offer presented earlier.

According to the certified results of the June 7 elections, the Vetëvendosje Movement won 47.13 percent of the vote and 53 seats in the Assembly. The Democratic Party of Kosovo secured 19.44 percent, or 22 MPs, the Democratic League of Kosovo 16.69 percent and 18 seats, while the Alliance for the Future of Kosovo won 6.74 percent and seven MPs. Non-majority communities secured a total of 20 seats in the Assembly.
